| 6400.112(d) | Individual #1 was unable to evacuate their apartment in 2 minutes and 30 seconds. During the unannounced fire drill held on 3/29/23, they made it to the threshold at 2 minutes and 43 seconds. | Individuals shall be able to evacuate the entire building, or to a fire safe area designated in writing within the past year by a fire safety expert, within 2 1/2 minutes or within the period of time specified in writing within the past year by a fire safety expert. The fire safety expert may not be an employe of the home or agency. Staff assistance shall be provided to an individual only if staff persons are always present at the home while the individual is at the home. | Individual #1 received a boot the previous day due to a foot injury. Individual #1 has been able to evacuate effectively throughout the year. They had completed a successful drill on 3/28/23. They also had another successful drill on 3/30/23 and on April 12 the 2023 overnight fire drill was completed successfully. The Compliance Coordinator Assistant contacted the local fire company, who sent out a fire safety expert on 4.7.2023. The determination was the building could support an extended evacuation time due to structure, sprinkler system on the first floor and fire safe doors. At this writing, we are still awaiting the official letter to confirm this extended evacuation time. Until we have this extended evacuation time, if the individual is unable to evacuate timely due to an injury that prevents an evacuation time in 2:30 the process will be to have the individual and the staff temporarily relocate to the first floor of the building, until the individual is no longer injured. This area provides for Individual #1's needs and will also enable them to be able to safely evacuate the building within the 2 minutes and 30 seconds. |
