2380.188(a) | Individual #1's most recent assessment dated 11/23/2021 indicates that the individual, "eats and drinks independently, but needs food cut up into pieces". Also, the most recent ISP dated 9/28/2021 indicates that individual #1 "is unable to cut up food into pieces" and that individual #1 is, "able to eat independently when the plate is placed in front of [individual #1] and the food is cut into small pieces".
The provider indicated that this was not a "need" but rather a "preference". However, the way that the assessment is worded does not suggest that this is just a preference (emphasis falls on the word "need") and the ISP supports this statement by stating that individual #1 is unable to cut up food into pieces independently, so that would infer that the staff need to be aware of this requirement so they can ensure safety from choking.
Therefore, at the time of the inspection, there was no documentation demonstrating that the facility was providing services including assistance, training and support for the acquisition, maintenance, or improvement of this functional skill/personal needs. | The facility shall provide services including assistance, training and support for the acquisition, maintenance or improvement of functional skills, personal needs, communication and personal adjustment. | Individual #1's Assessment and ISP indicate a need for Individuals food to be cut into bite size pieces as she is unable to do this herself. A Meal Plan was created for Individual #1 and all current CPS Harrisburg East staff were trained on the Meal Plan by the Supervisor. |
