6400.112(a) | There were no documentations to show that fire drills were conducted in the months of January, February, March, April, May, and June of the year 2017. | An unannounced fire drill shall be held at least once a month. | One individual lives in this home. He is currently in hospice care in the home and has been since December, 2016. This individual's medical condition was so compromised that the team, in consultation with the individual's hospice care team, believed that moving him, even for fire drills, might speed his death. The staff at the home continued to simulate drills, sounding the alarm and reviewing the steps they would take in the event of a fire, but not moving the individual. Staffing was increased to 2:1 and the increased stimulation seemed to engage the individual and while he was still very medically compromised it was decided that it would be safe to run drills and they were restarted. In the future, the agency will request a waiver if unable to comply with a regulation. |
